David Dyer, Ph.D., is executive director of the Master of Science in Biotechnology program at Azusa Pacific. Dyer received his B.S. degree in Genetics from the University of California at Davis, and his Ph.D. degree in biology with an emphasis in molecular mechanisms of central nervous system repair from the University of California at Irvine. He established the research and development division of Woodward Laboratories, Inc., focused on transdermal drug delivery system development, and holds several U.S. and international patents for his work in this area. In this role, he developed and patented the first alcohol-free, benzalkonium chloride hand sanitizer named CleanHands, which was shown to reduce school illnesses in a controlled clinical trial by more than 40%.
Dyer has also guided Phase IV clinical research and development in the area of central nervous system antiepileptic drug product development for UCB, Inc., and has served as an industry consultant for drug product development and clinical testing. Following his strong interest in focused training of the high technology workforce associated with the California biomedical products industries, he has been involved with establishing applied science master's training programs since 2008. He served as the executive director for the nation’s first multi-campus biotechnology master’s degree program at California State University.

Murray L. Cohen, Ph.D., MPH Dr. Cohen is Chairman and Founder of Global BioRisk Management, Chairman Emeritus of the Frontline Healthcare Workers Safety Foundation, Ltd. (a global NGO), and owner of Consultants in Disease and Injury Control Inc. (CDIC), a firm specializing in providing expert consultation in industrial hygiene, hospital safety, work place safety, infectious disease control, risk assessment and biosafety. Frontline Foundation developed the Frontline Healthcare Workers Safety Conferences in the 1990s to revitalize efforts in hospitals and alternative healthcare settings to prevent the transmission of blood-borne viruses and develop methods of implementing protective technologies/strategies. Also in association with Frontline Foundation, Dr. Cohen conceived and produced the Homeland Security Summit in 2002-3, an accredited training program in mass casualty management and terrorism response for medical personnel and first responders.
Dr. Cohen retired as a Captain from the Public Health Service where he most recently served as the Chief to the Medical Device Evaluation Laboratory for the National Center for Infectious Disease, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. During the seven years Dr. Cohen served in this capacity his responsibilities included the evaluation of the role of medical devices in disease transmission or prevention. He currently serves as Expert Consultant on Biosecurity for the World Health Organization, and consults with the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, Environmental Protection Agency among others.
Dr. Cohen earned his B.A. in Biological Sciences from the University of Texas, Austin, followed by a M.P.H. in Community Health Services from the University of Texas School of Public Health, Houston. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago. He is also a certified Industrial Hygienist. He is well published and lectures extensively in the field of Health and Public Safety. His honors include a Meritorious Service Medal, Commendation Medal, Citation, and U.S. Senate Confirmation for Appointment to the U.S. Public Health Service Regular Commissioned Corps. He has testified before Congress regarding workplace safety for healthcare workers.

Steve Czerwinski, Ph.D., Ed.D. spent 25 years as a chemist in the US Army’s Medical Service Corps and retired at the rank of Major. As an Army chemist, he served as a clinical chemist at several major Army medical centers, as well as an environmental organic chemist and biomedical researcher at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. Dr. Czerwinski received a Ph.D. from University of Maryland, Baltimore in Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, an Ed.D. from Morgan State University in Higher Education, a Master of Science from DePaul University in Chemistry, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a Bachelor of Science from Knox College in Physics. After his military career, he spent over ten years as a college professor teaching chemistry, earth science, and, most recently, pharmacology and pathophysiology for Morgan State University in the baccalaureate nursing program. He is currently teaching chemistry for Harford Community College and the Vice-Chair of the Medical Advisory Board for Innovative BioDefense.
